Please join the Department of French and Francophone Studies for “The Royal Black: Variations on an Afrotype” presented by Lydie Moudileno.

Lydie Moudileno is Marion Frances Chevalier Professor of French and Professor of American Studies and Ethnicity and Comparative Literature at the University of Southern California (Dornsife). Her research focuses on literary and cultural productions from the Francophone Caribbean, West and Central Africa, as well as postcolonial France. She is the author of Mythologies postcoloniales: Décoloniser le quotidien (with A. Etienne, 2018), Parades post coloniales: la fabrication des identités dans le roman congolais (2006), Littératures africaines francophones des années 1980 et 1990 (2003), and L’écrivain antillais au miroir de sa littérature (1997). She is the co-editor of Postcolonial Realms of Memory: Signs and Symbols in Modern France (2020), Marie NDiaye’s Worlds (2013), L’Exposition postcoloniale. Nouvelles représentations du corps africain (2006) and Maryse Condé: Une nomade inconvenante (2002).
