Brown University Latin Jazz and Pop Festival Press Coverage!

October 26, 2015

From October 1-7, 2015, CLACS hosted Brown University's first Latin Jazz and Pop Festival. A lively celebration of Latin musics and cultures, the week featured live performances from artists such as Descemer Bueno, PALO!, Pedrito Martinez, Gina Chavez, Ed Calle, and Sonlokos; as well as panels and lectures with Eva Silot Bravo, Martin Cohen, Ned Sublette and others. Co-sponsored by the Watson Institute, the Fundación Botín, the Brown Department of Music, the Office of the Vice Provost for the Arts, and the Creative Arts Council.

The festival was covered by media outlets in the United States and Cuba. Emmy-winning director Joe Cardona and his Miami-based crew documented events for an upcoming PBS film about the festival entitled Ivy League Rumba. Katherine Chavez of College Hill's B-SIDE music magazine interviewed festival musician Gina Chavez on film. Check out these articles from El Diario de Cuba, the Watson Institute media team, and B-SIDE Magazine.
