May 5, 2020

The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications for Summer Proctorships for graduate students.

Recipients of Summer Proctorship positions will participate in a project-based, internship-style experience offered through an academic unit or in research, training, academic or administrative offices around campus. The goal is to offer graduate students whose research and study have been impacted by COVID-19 new professional and career development opportunities to enhance their experience and skills.

CLACS is very pleased to be able to offer three opportunities:

Title: CLACS Historical Project Proctor

Description: Proctors will compile information about previous CLACS directors, alumni and affiliated graduate students, key speakers, performers and visiting professors and conduct online interviews with past CLACS directors and affiliated faculty (maybe video interviews), and develop an online friendly platform that will host the historical CLACS project; all information will be organized into a storytelling format.

Preferred Skills or Disciplinary Background: Knowledge of the Latin American and Caribbean region and ability to read in Spanish; familiarity with our Center will be a plus.

Title: Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACA) Concentration Proctor

Description: This proctorship will focus on our LACA undergraduate concentration and our Center as a whole; proctor will report on courses offered by the concentration over the past 5-7 years, in order to establish an overview of the program, the evolution of the concentration, and the strength and coherence of the advising structure; proctor will also provide a report based on the comparison of Brown CLACS to other Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies across different universities in the country, in terms of curriculum and mission.

Preferred Skills or Disciplinary Background: Knowledge of the Latin American and Caribbean region and ability to read in Spanish; familiarity with our Center will be a plus.

Title: Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACA) Digital Pedagogy Proctor

Description: Proctor will help Center with transition to remote teaching of Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACA) courses for Fall; will also collaborate with course instructors to help with preparation of online course materials and learning activities designed for both synchronous and asynchronous teaching.

Preferred Skills or Disciplinary Background: Knowledge of the Latin American and Caribbean region and ability to read in Spanish; familiarity with our Center will be a great plus.
