Paulo Thomaz is a visiting scholar at Brown University and a professor of literature at the Universidade de Brasília. His teaching and research focus on the area of literature (Literatura/Letras), with an emphasis on recent Hispanic and Brazilian literature, including Afro-descendant and Latin American indigenous expressions. His research focuses mainly on themes of biopolitics, dictatorship, violence, catastrophes and diasporas. With regard to critical theory, he works within the frames of alternative epistemologies, decolonialism and critical posthumanism. He is part of the Grupo de Pesquisa em Literatura Brasileira Contemporânea (Gelbc) as well as GT Literatura Brasileira Contemporânea, linked to ANPOLL. He is vice-coordinator of the Agostinho da Silva Chair at UnB and Editor-in-Chief of the Revista Estudos de Literatura Brasileira Contemporânea.
