A roundtable discussion with authors Tatiana Salem Levy, Manoela Sawitzki, and Natalia Borges Polesso about the gender violence in Brazil, narrating gender violence, and the position and power of literature.

Tatiana Salem Levy (Lisbon, 1979) is a writer, essayist and researcher at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. With her novel The House in Smyrna (A chave de casa), translated into several languages, she received the São Paulo Prize for Literature as a debut author in 2008. She also published the novels Dois Rios (2011) and Paraíso (2014). She also has books dedicated to children and youth, and a book of chronicles. She writes book reviews and cultural commentary in the Valor Econômico newspaper. Her's most recent novel, Vista Chinesa, was published in 2021 in Brazil.

Manoela Sawitzki (Brazil, 1978) holds a PhD in Literature, Culture and Contemporaneity (PUC-Rio), writer, screenwriter and journalist. She is the author of the novels Vinco (Companhia das Letras, 2022), Suite Dama da Noite no Brasil (Record, 2009) – also published in Portugal (Cotovia, 2009) and France (Tupi or not Tupi Éditions, 2014), Nuvens de Magalhães (Mercado Aberto, 2002) and the play Calamidade (Funarte, 2004 – Açorianos Award for Best Dramaturgy). She participated in five anthologies of short stories, published in Brazil, Argentina and France. As a journalist in the fields of literature and theater, she has served as a contributor to Bravo! and Aplauso, and for the newspapers Estado de S.Paulo and Rascunho. She was the screenwriter of the series Destino SP (O2 Filmes – HBO), the telefilm Minha Mãe (RBSTV) and the short film Fotos Privadas (Kikito for best script in a short film / Festival de Gramado).

Natalia Borges Polesso (Brazil, 1981) is a writer, translator and researcher at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (CNPq/FAPERGS fellow). She is the author of 8 books. Among them, Amora (2015), winner of the Prizes Jabuti, Açorianos and Associação Gaúcha de Escritores (AGEs); Controle (2019), her first novel won the AGEs and Vivita Cartier prizes and was shortlisted for the São Paulo Literature Prize; Corpos Secos (2020) won the Jabuti prize. She recently published A extinção das abelhas (2021), winner of the Minuano Prize and finalist for the Jabuti and São Paulo, and the children's book Formiguinhas (2022). The author was selected for the Bogotá39 list and has her work has been translated in several countries, such as Argentina, Spain, United States and United Kingdom.
