Queer art exhibit shuts down after right-wing protests in Porto Alegre
An art exhibition featuring pieces by Brazilian LGTBQ artists shut down in response to strong opposition from right-wing and religious groups in Porto Alegre. The protesters accused the exhibit, titled Queermuseu, of promoting blasphemy and pedophilia. Numerous LGTBQ organizations have organized rallies for the reopening of Queermuseu, calling its closure a dangerous act of censorship, reminiscent of the Brazilian dictatorship era.
