Kate participates in collaborative documentary projects with Guarani communities in southern Brazil, exploring the possibilities and limitations of public Guarani performance as the privileged vehicle for gaining attention and resources. In her fieldwork and writing, Kate seeks to blur the lines between “academic” and “applied” ethnomusicology by emphasizing political and cultural activism.
