With a population of 1.4 billion people that live across 9.6 million square kilometers of land, China has always had a rich and complex blend of cultures; however, the influx of western and other international influences in recent decades have undeniably affected Chinese culture in far-reaching and dynamic ways. Chinese designers face the challenges of navigating the increasingly complex and tenuous cultural landscape that encompasses both revitalizations of ancient Chinese traditions and emergence of Western customs and ideals. What is modern Chinese culture? How do artists and designers reflect this in their works? How do designers incorporate traditional Chinese elements into their modern designs? Through the dialogue between three renowned Chinese designers and artists: Guo Qian, Li Tianshu, Fei Jun, we hope to share insights into these complex questions with the Brown community.

九百六十万平方公里的华夏土壤上生长着十四亿炎黄子孙，中国自古以来拥有着多元且博大精深的本土文化。但是在最近的几十年，西方和其他国际势力无可争辩地广泛并且多面地影响和改变了中国文化。中国的设计师，艺术家们面临的挑战是梳理这个既要传承中国传统文化，也要与西方文化交融的复杂并且脆弱的文化地形。那么什么是真正的当代中国文化？艺术家们又是如何体现在他们的作品当中？设计师是如何在自己的现代设计种结合中国传统文化元素？我们将在座谈中与三位知名的艺术家：郭谦建筑师，李天蜀室内设计师与费俊艺术家开启一段对话来分享他们的见解。

Guo Qian, Architecture professor and doctoral advisor at South China University of Technology; specializes in Historical Environment Preservation and Development; One of his main project is the Cantonese Opera Art Museum.

郭谦，华南理工大学建筑系教授，博士生导师，华南理工大学历史环境保护与更新研究所所长。主要研究方向为历史环境的保存与发展。主要科研项目有国家自然科学基金项目《南方民系民居与现代村镇居住模式研究》、《中国传统城市的人居环境思想与实践》，以及《岭南近代建筑美学研究》。多次获国际、国内竞赛奖项，其中“从化广裕祠修复设计”获得了联合国“亚太地区文化遗产保护奖”第一名；主创设计的粤剧艺术博物馆项目获2017年度全国优秀工程勘察设计行业奖园林和景观工程设计一等奖。参与写作的《中国民居建筑》获国家图书一等奖。.

Li Tianshu, Founder of Chengdu Shangcheng Design Office, art and communication science professor at Chengdu University of Technology, won multiple China Interior Design Grand Prix and been named one of the top 10 designers in Chengdu.

李天蜀，1997年毕业于西南师范大学美术学院，现任教于成都理工大学传播科学与艺术学院。中国建筑学会室内设计分会会员、室内建筑师。2001年成都市建委颁发：成都十佳优秀家装设计师。专注于规划、建筑、景观、室内的一体化设计,关注建筑与自然、人文及社会的研究,近年来在一系列的的规划、建筑设计项目中不断地实践着他的设计理想,探寻设计的内在价值。

Jun Fei, (will participate virtually) head of CAFA Media Lab, associate professor in interactive media art and design, China Central Academy of Fine Arts. His artistic practice has crossed digital art, interactive art, experience design, interface design, interaction design and digital publishing.

费俊，中央美术学院数码媒体工作室教授， 交互艺术与设计研究生导师，交互北京发起人，某集体首席创意总监，北京媒体艺术双年展策展人。他的艺术和设计作品多次展出于国内外画廊、博物馆和艺术节，并荣获了德国IF设计奖、红点设计奖和亚洲最具影响力设计大奖等荣誉。
