GBV Specialist/ head of Unit - United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)
Currently Awet is working for United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) as Program Specialist, Gender Based Violence Prevention and Response interventions in Kachin state, Myanmar. In this position, he oversees UNFPA’s humanitarian and multi-sectoral GBV prevention, response, adolescent and sexual and reproductive health and rights and coordination efforts in Kachin and northern Shan States. In addition, he focuses on the provision of high quality technical, advocacy and coordination support in order to ensure compliance with international standards across the areas of UNFPA mandated areas of work. Furthermore, Awet is responsible for the implementation and coordination of UNFPA programs with state government, NGOs and civil society partners; heading UNFPA’s sub office in Kachin and field office in northern Shan states with direct supervision of 13 staff based in Myitkyina and Lashio. Above all, Awet is a strong activist on ending violence against women and girls, technical advisor on GBV prevention strategies mainly on SASA! as well as a father of two daughters.
