COVID-19 Vaccine Training for Health Care Workers

This virtual training course developed in parternship with Project HOPE and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) is designed to be deployed in low and middle-income country settings where responding organizations are working to scale up local capacity for COVID-19 vaccine distribution. Following the World Health Organization’s COVID vaccines guidelines, the training provides critical knowledge about the different available vaccines through a blend of online learning modules, materials for in-person trainings, and direct support to health facilities. COVID-19 Training for Health Care Workers

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, CHRHS partnered with Project HOPE to develop and implement a training program for health workers to rapidly scale-up response efforts in high-risk countries. The training utilizes a Training-of-Trainers model to engage master trainers and coach new trainers, allowing Project HOPE and CHRHS to quickly build a cadre of competent instructors who are able to train other health workers within their networks to respond efficiently to the threat of COVID-19. To date, more than 5,000 Master Trainers have completed the curriculum and have cascaded modules to more than 88,000 health care providers and frontline responders across 52 countries. More >

The Student Clinic for Immigrant Justice

Through a collaborative partnership, CHRHS and the Student Clinic for Immigrant Justice (SCIJ) train students at Brown to provide legal services to asylum seekers and organize for immigrant justice. SCIJ’s training program engages students in gaining a broad overview of immigration law so they’re prepared to provide legal services to immigrants, learning about the history and systemic issues with US immigration, and building skills in community organizing and advocacy. After completing SCIJ’s training program, students work in their own communities with our partner immigration attorneys to provide direct legal representation to local asylum seekers. Learn More >

Hack for Humanity

Hack for Humanity is humanitarian focused hackathon at Brown University that brings together students from across Rhode Island to learn about the most pressing needs in the humanitarian sphere and develop creative ideas for innovative programs or technologies that could help improve the lives of disaster and conflict affected communities around the world. Now in its fourth year, Hack for Humanity takes place at the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs each year during the spring semester. More >

Brown-PDRF Humanitarian Field Program

This intensive course, held under the auspices of the Brown University’s Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs and the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) convenes early to mid-career professionals from the ASEAN region to address pressing humanitarian issues through collaboration across academic, professional, and geographic boundaries. Participants work together with local and international humanitarian experts through a combination of lectures and field exercises designed to stimulate cross-disciplinary learning on improving global-local humanitarian coordination efforts. Linking Medical Education with Humanitarian Programing

The Hearst Foundations has awarded CHRHS a three year grant to support programming that links medical education to humanitarian action. Programing will include active education, scholarly projects, paid internships with leading humanitarian organizations, and small seed grants to students to carry out research or training projects that demonstrate interdisciplinary collaboration between academics and practitioners.
