Humanitarian Essentials for Youth

Funded through the HI² Training Seed Grant Program, the objective of this project is to develop an awareness training module on “Humanitarian essentials for youth”. The module content will be of global context and based on the key humanitarian skills required, for youth when demanded to volunteer in a humanitarian crisis. The module could be used in any context around the world to raise awareness among the youth either in a unique half a day program or could be embedded in few days long youth workshops as one of the modules. The half day awareness module will include key humanitarian principles, humanitarian standards as a basic for any new youth who will be involved in disaster response as a volunteer. A section on youth volunteerisms will capture important aspects of volunteerism in the context of humanitarian and disaster response. The final section on the module will contain a simulation exercise with toolbox and standards that are helpful for the youth. The module will be pilot tested in one of the upcoming youth training programs in Sri Lanka.
