Dr. Deborah Birx served as the White House COVID Coordinator from 2020-2021, US Global AIDS Coordinator as part of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) from 2014-2020, Director of CDC’s Division of Global HIV/AIDS (DGHA) from 2005-2014, and Director of the U.S. Military HIV Research Program (USMHRP) at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research from 1996-2005. Dr. Birx is a military-trained infectious disease physician and an esteemed scholar, having published over 230 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, authored nearly a dozen chapters in scientific publications, and developed and patented vaccines.
