¿Se aculillo? / Are you scared? Es una exhibición emergente de duración de un mes en AS220’s Resident Gallery presentando obras de artistas visuales que están históricamente arraigados en la batalla constante de enfrentar el miedo o obras que contemporáneamente enfrentan al miedo.
La frase ¿Se aculillo?, es una burla Colombiana que más o menos se traduce en “¿Tienes miedo.? Literalmente, aculillo se refiere a una sensación del cuerpo cuando se apriete o se enrolla hacia adentro.
Este octubre, como parte del Mes de la Herencia Hispana, Lundberg Torres Sánchez invita a los artistas Latinx/Latine, a presentar trabajos relacionado a los temas de miedo, aprehensión y el cuerpo, o a la frase ¿Se aculillo? / Are you scared?.
Nota sobre Latinx and Latine: El show utiliza las palabras Latinx y Latine como formas neutrales de género Latina/Latino. Latinx es un término neutral muy distintivo usado en Estados Unidos de Norteamérica, usado en espacios queer o radicales y consecuentemente, la academia en Estados Unidos. Latine (y la práctica de reemplazar “a/o” con la terminación “e”), por otra parte, es un lenguaje de género neutral que conjuga más fácil con el español hablado.

About the show:
¿Se aculillo? / Are you scared? is a one-month pop up exhibit in AS220’s Resident Gallery showcasing visual artists’ reckonings with fear: PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE.
The phrase. ¿Se aculillo?, is a Colombian taunt that roughly translates to, “Are you scared?” More literally, aculillo refers to a sensation of the body clenching or curling inward.
This October, as part of Hispanic Heritage Month, Lundberg Torres Sanchez invites Latinx/Latine artists whose work relates to themes of fear, apprehension, and the body, OR to the phrase ¿Se aculillo? / Are you scared? to submit.
Note about Latinx and Latine: The show title uses both Latinx and Latine as gender neutral forms of Latina/Latino. Latinx is a distinctly U.S. American, gender-neutral term that has been taken up by queer, radical spaces, and, subsequently, the academy in the United States. Latine (and the practice of replacing “a/o” endings with “e”), on the other hand, is a gender neutral language that more easily flows and conjugates in spoken Spanish.
