Queer Xicanismo: On Queerness, Patriarchy, Nationalism, and the Future
February 13, 2018 @ 7:00-8:30 pm - Salomon 001
Queer Xicano Chisme is a queer, brown, femme, first-generation blogger with a social media presence dedicated to social justice and creating discourse surrounding their lived experiences at the intersections of queerness, femmeness and Xicanismo. This lecture addresses toxic machismo particular of Latin American patriarchy, what it means to exist outside a narrow idea of 'respectable,' and the role of queerness in blazing new trails towards liberation and a newfound Xicanismo. He will speak about how the borders surrounding their identities have influenced, crafted, policed, and affirmed all that they are and the work that they do.
