Daniel McDonald's dissertation project “Peripheral Citizenship: The Popular Politics of Rights, Welfare, and Health in São Paulo, 1970-1994,” examines grassroots movements and the popular politics of citizenship rights and welfare in São Paulo’s urban periphery during Brazil’s transition from authoritarian (1964-85) to democratic rule.
