Surveying Protests in Latin American Capital Cities: A Comparative Study of Protest Participation in Buenos Aires, Santiago, and Mexico City
María Inclán, Profesora-Investigadora at the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas in Mexico City. She has specialized on the study of comparative social movements and democratization processes. In particular, her research has focused on the development of social movements and cycles of protest within democratic transitions and individual triggers of protest participation. She is currently developing a research project on online political and mobilizing campaigns. Before coming to CLACS, she spent a year as a Visiting Fellow and Visiting Associate Professor of History at Princeton University’s Program in Latin American Studies (2017-2018). Her first book, The Zapatista Movement and Mexico’s Democratic Transition was published in 2018 by Oxford University Press. Other works have been published in the American Journal of Sociology, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal of Peace Research, Latin American Politics and Society, and Mobilization.
Federico M. Rossi is a Humboldt Senior Fellow at the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA) in Hamburg, and a Research-Professor of Argentina’s National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) at the School of Politics and Government of the National University of San Martín (UNSAM) in Buenos Aires. Rossi holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the Universidad de Buenos Aires and a Doctoral degree in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy. He has been Visiting Professor at the Centre on Social Movement Studies of the Scuola Normale Superiore (Florence), the American University in Cairo and Singapore Management University, Visiting Scholar at New York University and the Universidade de Brasília, and Postdoctoral Fellow at the EUI and Tulane University.
