Raising eyebrows: How learning Portuguese led to world travel, social change, and samba.
Nathaniel entered Brown as a chemistry concentrator, but he switched to Portuguese and Brazilian Studies by the end of his sophomore year. That decision set him off an adventure worldwide, combatting poverty, developing novel technologies, and even feigning samba.
Join us as he shares how learning Portuguese at Brown not only equipped him with a unique competitive set of skills in his career as a social entrepreneur and academic research but also allowed him to discover his calling and a world much more exciting than he would have ever found within the walls of a chemistry lab.
Nathaniel Lawrence '14 is the founder and CEO of Credito Social. He holds a bachelor's in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies and Economics from Brown University and a master's degree in Latin American Studies from Columbia University.
