A lecture by Macarena Gómez-Barris, Professor and Chairperson, Social Science and Cultural Studies, Pratt University"Atacama: An Integrated Research Practice"
Monday, January 24 @ 5:00 PM
Via Zoom https://brown.zoom.us/j/ 99239347962
In this talk, Professor Gómez-Barris will describe her current research practice in relation to the Atacama Desert in Northern Chile, an Atacameño Indigenous territory that is a hyper visible space of astronomical mapping as well as copper and lithium extraction. She considers what it means to study with and against the colonial model of knowledge production by centering new modes of environmental writing and visuality that consider Indigeneity, queer decolonial practice, and more than human existence within the multiple ecologies of the desert. Her talk asks: What life forms exist on the other side of settler governmentality?
