About the Group
This reading group will convene to discuss the work of Ailton Krenak, a Brazilian Indigenous
activist, environmentalist, and advocate for Indigenous rights. Krenak challenges us to awaken
from the "comatose senselessness" instilled by the modern colonial project, where notions of
order, progress, and capitalism have resulted in a diminished sense of life. His works emphasize
that the current environmental crisis is deeply rooted in society’s flawed concept of “humanity,”
which prioritizes human superiority over other beings. By examining Krenak’s writings,
participants will consider the urgent need to foster critical dialogue about contemporary
ecological challenges and the potential for societal transformation.
