Inspired by the rise of a remarkable constellation of influential and award-winning writersFLIP: Festival de Literatura Iberoamericana de Providence (Providence Iberoamerican Literature Festival) is thrilled to welcome novelists, poets, and short story writers from Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain.

FLIP aims to serve as a bridge, connecting our vibrant campus with the heart of the city and nurturing a strong sense of community. To foster inclusivity and knowledge across diverse backgrounds and age groups, the festival will host discussions featuring novelists, translators, publishers, and poets, performances, and a series of workshops for all members of the Brown University community and the wider local community, including children and teens, who will be able to enjoy a specific set of activities in the context of Mini FLIP.

The theme of this inaugural edition is “Fuera de Lugar/Out of Place.” Through this notion, FLIP seeks to delve into the experience of living and creating in foreign environments, exploring the sense of displacement that resonates deeply with the international landscape of Brown University, Providence, and Rhode Island.

The organizers are thankful to community partners who have enthusiastically joined the project and will be hosting activities. FLIP has also garnered support from multiple sponsors, including several units at Brown University and external cultural foundations, consulates, and local businesses. The Festival is designed to appeal to both English-speaking and Spanish-speaking communities in Providence and Rhode Island. Simultaneous translation from Spanish to English is available during the event to ensure accessibility for everyone.

We warmly invite you to save the date and join this lively celebration featuring writers, books, live music, dance performances, a crafts fair, a poetry night, and a series of engaging and interactive workshops—all awaiting your participation.
