November 22, 2016

Grace Monk (Comparative Literature, '18) has received a CLACS Undergraduate Research Award to support her ongoing work with the Memorias del Territorio project in Valparaíso, Chile. Celebrating the history and culture of Valparaíso, Chile, the Memorias del Territorio project sponsors street art murals in community spaces throughout the city. Each mural serves a different community and relates to the history of its location or a specific aspect of Chilean culture. The artists involved in the project are from various regions of Chile, all currently living and painting in Valparaíso. The goal of Memorias del Territorio is to create positive relationships between artists and residents with the belief that street art can benefit everyone. Through this CLACS Undergraduate Research Award, Grace Monk will be able to help finance 2-3 additional murals within the city of Valparaíso.
