Assistant Professor Bhrigupati Singh wins book award from the American Academy of Religion

Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Faculty Fellow at the Watson Institute, Bhrigupati Singh was recently selected by the American Academy of Religion (AAR), as the recipient of the 2016 Award for Excellence in the Study of Religion in the category of Analytical-Descriptive Studies.  The award was given for his first book, Poverty and the Quest for Life: Spiritual and Material Striving in Rural India which was published in 2015 by the University of Chicago Press.  The award will be presented at the annual meeting of the AAR in San Antonio, Texas in November.  The book was also awarded the Joseph W. Elder Prize in the Indian Social Sciences by the American Institute of Indian Studies.
