Project Title: Lives on the Periphery: Social Roles of Women in Pre-Colonial Punjab
Tara Dhaliwal is a second-year doctoral student in the Department of Religious Studies, specializing in Islam, Society, and Culture. Her research focuses on the early-modern Persianate world, particularly the Mughal and Safavid Empires. She is currently exploring popular folkloric narratives from within these empires to uncover what these narratives reveal about the social, religious, and cultural commitments of the times. Prior to Brown, she got her B.A. in Middle Eastern Studies and Politics from New York University, and an A.M. from Harvard University in Middle Eastern Studies.
