Elias Muhanna awarded Morris D Forkosch Prize from the Journal of the History of Ideas

The Journal of the History of Ideas awards the Morris D Forkosch Prize for the best book in intellectual history each year. Elias Muhanna, associate professor of comparative literature, won for The World in a Book: Al-Nuwayri and the Islamic Encyclopedic Tradition (Princeton University Press), which explores Shihab al-Din al-Nuwayri’s fourteenth century thirty-one-volume encyclopedia, analyzing its structure and contents, sources and influences, and reception and impact in the Islamic world and Europe.
