Best of Middle East Studies Brown 2018-19

Middle East Studies promotes research, teaching, and public engagement on key issues of the Middle East in a historically and culturally grounded manner.

MES is a significant presence in Brown’s undergraduate curriculum. Hundreds of students enroll in ME and ME cross-listed courses every semester. The number of concentrators currently stands at 28. By May 2018, 78 students had graduated with a concentration in MES

Since 2012, the size of the core faculty in MES has increased more than three-fold despite several departures before and after 2012. Current MES faculty at Brown are located in the departments of Anthropology, Archeology, Center for Language Studies, Comparative Literature, Egyptology and Assyriology, French Studies, History, History of Art, Judaic Studies, MCM, Religious Studies, and Sociology. Additionally, visiting faculty have taught pertaining to the region in these and other departments (e.g. Philosophy).
